The Upside and the Downside

Hi everyone, I am sorry to have been so quiet this last week, the downside for me has been that both my thumbs and wrists have been giving me quite a lot of trouble and I have had to have a rest from my beloved crochet!  It is terribly frustrating because of course, I still work (massage and beauty treatments) do the house work etc - all using hands frequently as we all do, so "resting" them enough for them to improve is quite difficult.  To be honest, I would rather give up the work, housework etc and just crochet but that aint gonna happen! I am trying not to let it get me down - I have cream to rub in and a very kind lady on Ravelry has told me to "ice dip" them so I am trying that. I am really cross with myself because this last weekend we went with friends to our first Festival (will post about it later in the week - gives me something else to talk about!!!) and just sitting all day listening to bands play - rested my hands and when I got back yesterday I thought hey - this is good - no pain.  Stupidly got up early today, caught up with the ironing, dysoned the whole house and then worked, silly SILLY Kimbles - tonight back to where I started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough of this I don't mean to whine on to all of you, just wanted to let you know that I havent got bored with blogging or crochet - its just circumstances at the mo!  Here are a few colourful crochet pictures to cheer me up mainly!! Showing the Granny Stripe progress before I had to stop

This is me crocheting the granny stripe blanket outside our camper a couple of weekends ago - even then progress was slow!  But I have to admit, that afternoon, a glass of wine by my side and crocheting and camping seemed to go really well together!

My beloved Summer Garden Blanket on the camper bed for extra warmth along with the camper cushions (I know they don't match, but I couldn't resist)

Square, Stripey and Hexagony goodness!

And lastly the lovely SIBOL thank you cards that arrived from lovely Sue, for Little Kimbles and myself, really beautiful and we will treasure them. If you haven't got involved in the SIBOL project yet, please check out this lovely blog - where squares are arriving from all over the world and lovely Sue is making them into blankets for the elderly.

Now the biggest "Upside" of the week has been Little Kimbles - I have her permission to tell you she got a 2-1 (I think that is how you show it!!) in her Degree!!  We are absolutely bursting with pride, she is working away for the next six weeks, so we will have to wait to crack open the Champagne, but boy those bubbles will be bouncing then!

Thank you so much for dropping by and sticking with me!

Speak soon xx

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your hands. I have something similar in that sometimes my hand will go numb and I have to rest it for a few days before I can crochet again, so I know what you're going through. Hang in there and try to rest it up as much as you can!

  3. Hello Kim,
OOh I am so pleased for 'Little Kimbles'. Please send her my warmest congratulations. I am so pleased for her. She has worked very hard by the sound of it. Well done 'Little Kimbles'.
I have really, really missed you. Blogland has not been the same without you. I do hope these hands soon get themselves right again and that you are back fully with us!
We'll be here for you when you are ready.
Your cushions and blankets look so colourful. Keep you warm and cosy at the same time.
Take care Kim, and thanks for posting today!

  4. Hi Kim,
Congrats to Little Kimbles! You must be so proud of her. I love the photos of your crocheting. All are just beautiful. Please rest your hands and don't worry about us we won't forget you. I'm so slow crocheting and still working on my "Crazy Colors" throw - now starting row 10 of 12. LOL! I've been thinking about the edging if I should try to do a lot of colors or limit it. Now don't forget to rest those hands.

  5. Poor Kim you are going through a rough spot. Sounds like RSI to me and I would think it is the massage work not the crochet that is the major cause. Good grounds for giving up work !!!!Anyway with all of those lovely blankets to look at you'll just have to get outside in your lovely Summer weather ( it is still lovely isn't it?)and rest those hands and wrists.
Good on you little Kim, it is so nice when hard work pays off. I'm sure you will reap the rewards of all that toil in the futurewhen it gets you the job of your dreams

  7. Hi there

Sounds like you, and some other lovely ladies on here, may have tendonitis in your hands (basically, wear and tear as my GP told me! He also told me that it's a 'condition' not an illness, so he couldn't sign me off work?!. I've since moved to France and work from home at my own pace, which has helped. I've had it for a few years - I now crochet more than knit because it's less painful, and my hand-writing has gone from very neat to downright unreadable. It would be lovely just to sit and crochet all day but, for most of us, that's just a distant wish. There are aids available such as these gloves http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran931-0.html which may help. I haven't tried them yet but will if the pain gets bad enough to stop me typing and crocheting.

    Hope this helps.

Love the camper van blankets and cushions!

  9. Kimmie.... you friend is right. Ice, Ice, Ice. This happened to me a while back and not just the hands, but the elbow. Tennis elbow is what they called it. I haven't held a racket in years. But, ice and rest was the trick.

Love the first picture so much. Isn't fun when you can spread it all out on your lap and admire all it's glory.

Off to figure out what to work on next.

  10. OOh I want that purple one (mouth waters). I know what you mean, after my shoulder op, I felt fine and started pushing wheelchairs, oops, not clever. isnt it frustrating when you get older, you have to wait to get better :)
Everyone says "now dont overdo it" and you just want to get "back to normal".

  11. Congratulations to your daughter, she must be really proud! ( Almost as much as her Mum ) I hope your hands feel better soon, ice and heat alternately is supposed to be healing- sounds unpleasant :(

  13. Dear Lady Kimble....Thank you for stopping by my little blog, and for leaving a comment, it is so appreciated, that you take time. Thank you for the ripple answer...I have not done one before..and I am not used to having right/wrong on the same side..it looks off somehow.I really like the blanket and the pillows, I think they look lovely together, grannies don't have to match that makes the special..just by their nature they are ecclectic, and present beautifully. Have a wonderful w/e...
