Crochet Intarsia Square

Morning Peeps!  quick post today, too much work getting in the way of everything at the moment! Good for the purse strings - bad for crafting!

Late last night I was playing around with intarsia crochet again. My head buzzing after the square I sent to Mrs Twins.  I was really pleased with it and haven't seen anything else around like it   ( probably haven't looked hard enough!).  Anyway this materialised

Excuse the colours, I was just playing around with bits of yarn - what do you think?  I really like it but it is Oh So Fiddly!!  I forgot to take a piccie of the tangles of yarn at the back of the square but this is it after cutting the excess off!

basically I think I may need lots of clips so that I can keep the wool from tangling too much because you have to weave it in as you go - I think a large square would make a great cushion don't you think?  If anyone knows of a glaringly obvious easier way of doing this PlEaSe leave a comment!

I need to explore, explore, this technique further!

Oh I nearly forgot  'Little Kimbles' - that's the new nickname someone has given my daughter after sending in her first square to Mrs Twins, and she is delighted to be part of the crochet community.

Have a great day

Speak soon xx

  1. Very effective Kim. I can just see a whole rug done with all the squares the same as the one you have done. It would have a great overall pattern with the light blue and lovely little chevrons.

  4. Fun, fun, fun. This is very cool. I think it's great that Little Kimbles is sending square off to the UK. You should be very proud of her.

Now, about the green and white check bucket below. What a great idea. Can't wait to get home and give this a try.

Off to catch up on others, so far behind on all my reading,
    Hugs,

  6. Yes, thats what I thought! It will be good for her. Thats why I suggested she does some 'team blogging' with her mom on SIBOL.
kiM,this square is very interesting. Do you know I wouldnt have a clue where to start with this. A cushion would be a great idea. I think i'm off to bed. great post.

  10. Hello Kim, just came over for a catch up. I love the deco patch craft you did. There is a shop that sells it near here, you have given the nudge to have a go myself! My Nan taught me to make crochet granny squares about 40 years ago and I can't remember now :(
I think I will stick with my patchwork, but I do like your designs.

  11. Hi Kim--- Just doing a bit of blog hoppping -- I think it should be a certifiable disease!! And I think your squares are really beautiful. However I retreat to Granny Squares when I am trying to escape the fiddly bits involved in a lot of my projects. So I will look and admire but I can't see any finding there way into my Lapacuudlyghans !!
    Kindest Regards Linda

  12. I've never tried intarsia in crochet but I used to do some Kaffe Fassett knitting with many many colours and I used his technique which was to cut lengths of wool rather than work from the ball. I found lengths of about a yard were fine and I wound them round my fingers into little hanks. A bit fiddly but then so is all that untangling...
My daughter has just started to pick up a hook,(she's 13) but she doesn't like "starting off" ,she likes to do a few rounds on a square I've already begun!
